Structured cabling infrastructure upgrade — fiber backbone, copper cable relocation and extension, new data outlets, sound masking, and UPS power protection across two floors

Profile Summary

CTCI partnered with Turner Construction Co. to deliver a full structured cabling and infrastructure upgrade for Reckitt’s Nutley office as part of a two-floor renovation. The scope spanned fiber backbone design, large-scale copper cable relocation and termination, hundreds of new data outlets, and a building-wide sound masking system, with CTCI technicians on-site through go-live to support a smooth transition for incoming staff.

Project Overview

CTCI is delivering a comprehensive structured cabling and low-voltage infrastructure upgrade across the 6th and 7th floors of Reckitt’s Nutley office, working alongside general contractor Turner Construction Co.

The project began with the design and installation of a 2-leg multimode fiber backbone connecting the MER to the SER, using 12-strand OM4 fiber with fully tested and labeled terminations.

A major portion of the scope involved reworking existing copper cabling across both floors: reterminating over 200 floor grommet outlets that had been temporarily coiled during construction, relocating and extending dozens of Cat 6a outlets to new positions, and installing several hundred brand-new Cat 6a data outlets to support AV, room booking, occupancy sensors, and door access systems. Existing ceiling-level outlets were also repurposed to support Wi-Fi access points and CCTV coverage.

To support a smooth transition into the space, CTCI will staff two lead technicians on First Day of Business to assist with fault-finding, copper patching, and general technical support as staff move in and begin using the new systems. The project also includes a full design-build sound masking system covering the office floors, along with UPS power protection equipment to safeguard critical network infrastructure.
